Celebrating Our Incoming 9th Graders

On June 15, Syosset Central School District’s two middle schools — H.B. Thompson and South Woods — returned to the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts to host their annual moving-up ceremonies. A combined total of 592 students were recognized as they prepare to enter high school this fall.

H.B. Thompson Middle School, led by Principal Kevin Bonanno, celebrated the achievements of its graduates. Student Masters of Ceremony Surata Lee and Aidan Thomas guided the program with poise and pride. A total of 306 students were recognized during the ceremony as they prepare to transition to high school.

At South Woods Middle School, 286 eighth graders were honored under the leadership of Principal Michelle Burget. Student Masters of Ceremony Raina Batra and Megan Chen led the ceremony, guiding their classmates through the program with confidence and pride.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Rogers offered remarks at both ceremonies, reflecting on the transition to high school. “Our job these last 9 years has been to make sure you are more than ready for this moment. Our job for the next 4 years is to give you all the support you need to achieve all you hope to accomplish.”

The ceremonies celebrated more than academic achievement — they honored the friendships, growth, and experiences that shaped students throughout their middle school years. As the Class of 2026 moves on to high school, they do so with the support of a strong school community and bright opportunities ahead.
